Trail Condition: Passable
Big Sur recreation crew and the Ventana vigilantes put in a solid day of work in May. The trail from the road to the vista point is extremely clear except for one section that has a huge tree over it that u can easily vault over. At the vista on the ridge, there is a slight confusion ,look for the orange tape and go down the ridge 50 ft and u will be clearly on the trail, there are two trees on the trail from that point forward.
Half way down you come to a large flat clearing and there is a use trail that takes you to the creek in the ravine(pico blanco creek) after that flat there is nice trail tread till u get to the very first leg of the downhill to the camp, river side bench. At this point there are two HUMUNGOUS Douglas firs that have toppled downhill across the trail. If you have a pack it will get pretty rough and I’d say impassable here.
However without a pack u can scramble to the right and thru the brush and back onto the trail and to the bench, beach.
Highly suggest camping at the flat I indicated and doing day trip without pack to bench, beach. The water out of pico blanco creek is cold and pure.
We should have further work done on this trail this fall. Enjoy
