After working on the Santa Lucia trail at the request of residents, landowners and locals. We are proud to say that the trail from parking lot at gorge to adobe is clear, from adobe to the first switch back there is one tree that feelon the cliffside over looking the smaller waterfall pool. Other than that it’s EXTREMELY passable. No more ducking at all,at least half the trails tread has been reworked(the farther you go,the better it will get) at saddle we cleared up to the saddle camp, cleaned u...read more

Santa Lucia trail: Old Adobe to 2 miles south

Trail: Santa Lucia Trail

Submitted by: tierrabonita1

Posted: November 13, 2024

Trail Condition: Good

Hiked 11/12/24 and the trail is in VERY passable condition. Some sections are PACK quality...other parts get hung up on your pack...but only require very minor ducking if you're over 5'5".
Bring hiking poles as the trail is narrow in places.
The views are amazing and I look forward to exploring this trail more following the amazing work and revival of this spectacular route! Thank you trail angels!

Backcountry Birdman
Big Sur rec crew worked for last few weeks on bringing the northern end(arroyo seco) of the trail back into use. We cut 27 small trees, 4 larger ones and cleared about 50 percent of the encroaching brush. We also reworked about 15 percent of the tread. This work is from the gorge parking to the saddle use camp, trail junction. From that point forward the trail from saddle camp to bluff is Indiana jones(horrible) we will be working more on the future on this trail an...read more

Trail: Julia Pfeiffer Burns: Waters Trail

Submitted by: mariposalily

Updated: August 12, 2024

Trail Condition: Good

7/22/24
Came up from Julia Pfeiffer Burns (Ewoldsen Trail) side. It was pretty hot with the annoying face flies and the trail is in really NEW condition...recently cleared. Needs MORE hikers on it to compress the trail. There was a teeny bit of water, only enough to wet a bandana and make the trail a bit muddy. GOOD NEWS: now you can hike up Tan Bark and go into JPBurns...or the reverse on Ewoldsen.

Rough but doable

Trail: Little Sur Trail

Submitted by: JackyG510

Updated: August 6, 2024

Trail Condition: Passable

07/27/24. Starting at Coast Rd the trail is clear and very pleasant. It follows the creek under a redwood canopy until the trail crosses the creek. This is where the incline begins. You leave the redwood canopy and enter the hilly scrubland. Out of nowhere, you come across a three-way fork in the trail crossing a road. The two roads are clearly marked as private property, and a large sign directs you to follow the trail into the brush. The trail is steep and narrow. Many small branches of brush...read more

Many large trees down on trail

Trail: Jackson Camp Trail

Submitted by: Darkwatcher55

Updated: August 5, 2024

Trail Condition: Impassable

From scout camp the first half mile of trail is clear and open.

After about a half mile the trail is very difficult due to many downed large trees laying in the trail making for difficult or impossible at points.

Some downed trees are perhaps 5-6 feet around. Some work around as are quite sketchy and not for beginners with large packs.

From Fish Camp, Jackson Camp, Fox Camp are all in decent shape and the trail back and forth over the river is evident in places but needs many more fe...read more

Spring trail to Molera Beach

Trail: Andrew Molera: Spring Trail

Submitted by: Thrashard97

Posted: August 1, 2024

Trail Condition: Good

Hike 7/30/24

Trail used to be very brushy and narrow. Nows it's brushed well but still narrow in some sections that entrenched. Pretty steep too so watch your footing and towards the bottoms there's a section that's extra narrow so watch where you step. There's a lot of driftwood right before you get to the beach so be ready to hop over tons of driftwood. The trails really short but worth the hike from the bluff trail.

Trail Condition: Good

Hiked 7/31/24

Seasonal footbridge for creek crossing at beginning of trail was out in a few weeks back. Trail was recently brushed so it's nice and wide. Easy 1 mile hike to the beach. Nice and flat.
