Trail Condition: Good

Hiked July 29th 2024 in the afternoon. Pine ridge trail out off Pfeiffer Big Sur state park down to ventana camp completely clear. 2 backpackers and 2 day hikers passed along trail. Otherwise very low usage. Found a VWA white helmet and a pair of men’s khaki pants down at ventana camp- left them there in case owner wants to come back for them. No litter or trash found, with the exception of one area with shitty toilet paper. Come on folks. Campsites in good condition. No campers down at ventan...read more

Trail Condition: Good

May 25-27, 2024 Labor Day weekend and we had it all to ourselves!! I had attempted to get to PBPC April 2022 and got super turned around and only made it about half way from the road to the camp before having to descend down to the river to stay the night. This time around the trail is GOOD 2 GO!!! We made it there without any problems. When you hit an open patch full of grass and thistle stay high. That’s all the advice necessary. The tread is a little soft, crumbly, and slanted in places a...read more

Trail Condition: Passable

Big Sur recreation crew and the Ventana vigilantes put in a solid day of work in May. The trail from the road to the vista point is extremely clear except for one section that has a huge tree over it that u can easily vault over. At the vista on the ridge, there is a slight confusion ,look for the orange tape and go down the ridge 50 ft and u will be clearly on the trail, there are two trees on the trail from that point forward. Half way down you come to a large flat clearing and there is a use ...read more

Easy Street on Marble Peak

Trail: Marble Peak Trail

Trail Condition: Good

7/16/24. Hiked from South Fork junction to Coast Ridge. Easily passable. Sections of “wilderness freeway” scattered in with sections of slight brush. Nothing more than a nuisance now but will fill in quickly. Beautiful views into Lost Valley and Tassajara drainages.

Trail Condition: Passable

7/15/24. Hiked uphill from Big Sur trail junction to Marble Peak trail junction. Trail was on the easy side of “passable”. Some deadfall, could step over or under with only minor effort while carrying a pack. Cleared light brush in 2 places. Flagging was helpful at some crossings. Tread was almost always visible except in dense riparian areas. Beautiful sugar pines and firs here that have survived or escaped many fires.

Trail Condition: Good

7/15/24. Hiked from cold spring to junction with South Fork. Trail is in good shape overall. A couple step overs of minor deadfall. Cleared some nuisance brush in one spot. There was a mountain lion shortly before Rainbow camp. It took off when it saw me.
